When Girls Learn, the World Rises: How Girls’ Education Transforms the World

Education is not just a fundamental right for girls; it is a tremendous force for positive change—not only for them, but for society as a whole. Educating girls strengthens their self-confidence, ignites their ambitions, and plants in them the seeds of success and the drive to achieve better outcomes for everyone around them—whether for their families, communities, or countries. Education helps girls escape the cycle of injustice and poverty. It also elevates their thinking and encourages them to look beyond the boundaries of reality, striving for positive change and active participation in family life, as well as in economic, social, cultural, and political spheres—ultimately pushing their countries to keep pace with more advanced nations.

When girls receive an education, they become more secure and better protected from dangers or violence they may face. Educated girls are more capable of making wise life decisions. When they marry and become mothers, they are more likely to raise successful, conscious, and educated generations that benefit their society and country. These children—who grow up in informed families that understand the value of girls’ education—will, in turn, become a means of continuing to build the nation, generation after generation

Despite the enormous importance of educating girls, the world still largely overlooks it. Millions of girls remain deprived of education due to poverty, early marriage, conflict, or cultural restrictions. According to the UNESCO Global Education Monitoring Report 2023, 129 million girls around the world are still out of school. Girls in conflict areas are 2.5 times more likely to be deprived of education.

What we are witnessing today in terms of the marginalization of girls and the denial of their right to education is not just an individual tragedy—it is a collective loss for the entire world.

Investing in our daughters' education is not charity; it is a forward-thinking, smart step. It brings about many positive and sustainable outcomes. It helps reduce the gender gap, accelerates development, strengthens the economy, and contributes to achieving sustainable development goals. Each additional year of education for girls can improve their standard of living and that of their families by up to 20%.

Now that you’ve finished reading the article, dear reader, doesn’t it deserve our attention to raise community awareness about the importance of fighting for girls’ education—so that we may build strong, cohesive bridges for the future of generations to come?
